January 27th First Day to File Your Taxes!

If you are a victim of the Equifax or other data breach, identity thieves may be preparing to file a fraudulent tax return and steal your tax refund. One thing you can do to protect yourself from this additional crime is to file your own taxes on the first possible day.

The IRS has announced that it will begin processing 2019 tax returns on January 27, 2020. So that is the first day you or anyone can file your tax return. Of course, you can start gathering your information today and work with a tax professional or online resource to begin filing your return anytime. Taxpayers who earn $69,000 or less can use free services listed here.

You are already a crime victim because of the data breach. The identity thieves may have enough information to commit another crime on January 27th. Get started on your tax return and review our other recommended steps for data breach victims. The more you know that better you can protect yourself from further crimes.
